seeing things differently : show me

So, one of my goals as a photographer is to see any given setting or situation differently. I’m going to show you two examples of two different locations. The images on the left are examples of what the location would normally look like to the naked eye. The images on the right are what you can make using your camera as a tool.

In this first picture, I simply posed Anabella and Renjit in the tunnel and wanted to show the cool pastel colors. (left image) You can see some of the shadows on the ground behind them which were used in the image on the right. The picture on the right is the same location, but I decided to use the shadows.

In this next picture, I took a picture of the groomsmen setting up the chuppah (left image) in the area where I put Michaela and Eric for the second image (right image). I used the direct sunlight coming in through the windows to create what I think is a very interesting portrait of the happy bride and groom.

I will try to do this more often in my blog as I think it is important for you to see not only the finished image, but what the location looks like and the thought process that is behind making photographs.

anabella + renjit : the engagement

Saturday, January 9, 2010. I will never forget this day because it must have been 20 degrees F with a windchill of -10 F. It was FREEZING out! I knew it was going to be cold so I showed up prepared – wearing my Under Armor (tops and bottoms). As a side note: just wearing Under Armor does NOT make your body look like those in the ads. Apparently, you actually have to work out or something like that.

Anyway… so, yeah it was cold. We shot outside at the old Central Railroad of New Jersey station in Liberty State Park in Jersey City.

As the shoot went on, Anabella + Renjit got more comfortable and it actually started to warm up a bit in the sun (maybe it hit 25 F).

True story – Anabella emails me a few days before our session. She says that Renjit wanted to cancel the shoot because he’s “shy.” Let me just say one thing – after 10 minutes or so, Renjit was loving it. He’s a natural. The camera loves him and he loves the camera!

We all had an awesome time. I can’t wait for their wedding in March! They’re also getting married at The Palace at Somerset Park.

michaela + eric : still hot and still smokin’

Ok, so I just finished up shooting Michaela and Eric’s awesome wedding a few hours ago. I should really be sleeping, but I couldn’t wait to post up some sneak peek images. They had their wedding at the very cool and very elegant Lounsbury House in Ridgefield, CT. Eric asked me if I would post some images tonight and I promised him 5 pictures. It was damn difficult choosing only 5.

They are just a super hot and super fun couple! They belong in a magazine. Congratulations again!

marissa + john : the engagement

It’s been a while since I updated with some photos. I shot Marissa and John’s engagement back in November and am just getting around to posting these on my blog. We shot their engagement session in Central Park. It was a gorgeous autumn day and people were out in herds! I’ll be shooting their wedding later this year on 10.10.10 at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, NJ.

I’m super excited and can’t wait for their wedding!
